To achieve such qualitative and quantitative growth in
the Indian Cotton production, the Agricultural Universities and Cotton
Research Organizations of the country are playing a vital role. The main
thrust is towards improving quality of Indian Cotton and to produce the
fiber which can also match with the state of the art textile machineries and
equipments and can boost the export potentiality of higher quality of yarn,
fabric & apparel and face the challenge of tough competition, especially
from the Far Eastern Countries.
India's Cotton Crop is unique in the sense that it has got all the
different varieties needed to spin almost all counts of yarn from 10s to
120s both combed and carded for multipurpose usage and that is why for the
last three / four years Indian Cotton is finding good response from various
countries and this proves its wide acceptability.
In India, Cotton Import and Export have been placed under Open General
Licence by the Government as a part of the Government's Liberal EXIM Policy
initiative.
Furthermore, to ensure a sustained mechanism for improvement of Indian
Cotton, the Government of India has launched the Cotton Technology Mission
(CTM) to achieve production targets, in terms of both quantity and quality,
with the principal objective to reduce trash content, contamination and
avoid fiber damage through modernizing the ginning and pressing factories.
